It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion for helping struggling students really understand maths.

My Goal

Hi, I am Kerri, a qualified teacher, tutor, mother and Foundation GCSE Maths Tutor. I specialise in supporting Year 10 and 11 and post-16 learners who find maths stressful, confusing or overwhelming and who need to pass rather than chase top grades. I specialise in working with post-16 learners who require their GCSE maths for work prospects and to gain access to further education.

I have vast experience with students with dyscalculia and neurodivergence and thus student mental health is paramount to my ethos. Many students I teach feel like they have not had an 'easy ride' at school so I aim to build their confidence back again in time for their exams. Math is an essential life skill and my goal is to empower students to achieve proficiency and earn this invaluable qualification.

Many of the students I work with are capable and bright but have lost confidence over time or were never shown maths in a way that truly made sense to them. Foundation GCSE Maths is not about being naturally good at maths. It is about understanding what matters, working methodically and knowing how to pick up marks in the exam.

For students, my aim is to make maths feel more manageable. You do not need to love maths or feel confident straight away. Lessons are calm and judgement free and questions are always encouraged. I focus on breaking problems down into simple steps, explaining methods clearly and helping students understand how to gain method marks and easy marks.

I do not promise quick fixes or unrealistic results. Instead, I offer clarity, consistency and an understanding of what Foundation GCSE Maths really requires.

If you are looking for a tutor who understands both the demands of Foundation GCSE Maths and the pressures teens and post-16 learners face, I aim to provide a supportive and practical path towards passing with confidence.

Beginnings

Education in Cornwall and Beyond

With strong roots in Cornwall, I was born in the beautiful land of farm and sea. While my beginnings are firmly planted in the local community, my tutoring services are available online world-wide, ensuring that learners from all corners of the globe can benefit from my knowledge and support.

Wherever you are in the UK or beyond, my commitment to quality education remains the same: helping 15-16 year olds and post-16 learners feel enlightened, fluent in arithmetic to gain a 4 and become less stressed at the prospect of their GCSE exam.

Groups & 1:1

I offer two types of sessions: online group sessions and either in person or online one-on-one consultations. Group sessions provide a collaborative environment where participants can share experiences and insights, fostering a sense of community and collective learning. These sessions are ideal for those looking to gain diverse perspectives and engage with others on similar journeys. On the other hand, one-on-one consultations offer a tailored experience, allowing for personalized attention and specific focus on individual goals and challenges. In these sessions, you can dive deep into your unique situations, ensuring that you receive targeted strategies and support to help you thrive.

Students benefit from peer learning while also receiving individual attention when required. Group interaction is encouraged so in addition to learning from a highly experienced tutor, will benefit massively from engaging with their peers.

My journey in education began with 1:1 learning, a method I deeply believe in. I recognise that some students may have missed crucial concepts that traditional classroom settings cannot address. I take pride in my ability to establish strong relationships with each student from day one. However, I also understand that tailored, one-on-one sessions are essential for some students to thrive and develop to their fullest potential. My home classroom reflects a calm, organised and inviting environment - where biscuits are always available!

Assessments

Assessments occur in November and April for all groups with additional evaluations mid-term. Students (and parents of Year 10&11) will receive written feedback on areas for improvement. This will ensure students are fully prepared for their exams.

Shaping brighter futures, one session at a time

I believe in the power of education to transform lives. I have seen students go from near zero marks in a paper to achieving 30 marks plus in under four months. I know how difficult life can feel when maths is a barrier.  Beyond just improving grades, I am passionate about building students' confidence in their own abilities.

Maths is a life skill: we use it all the time. From calculating the total at the supermarket to managing household budgets or even splitting a bill at a restaurant, maths plays an essential role in our daily lives. It helps us make informed decisions, solve problems and approach challenges with logic and precision.

Maths also opens doors to countless career opportunities. Fields such as engineering, technology, finance and healthcare all rely heavily on mathematical concepts. By developing strong math skills, individuals can unlock potential in high-demand industries and cultivate the confidence needed to thrive in an ever-evolving job market. When students start to believe in themselves and approach challenges with a positive mindset, the results are truly astounding. It’s not just about solving equations; it’s about cultivating a growth mindset that equips them to tackle obstacles in all areas of life.
